Over two days on the weekend of 7th and 8th September you’ll learn all you need to you know to build your own bread oven at home. Starting from a ready made base, we will build our way up showing you how to lay an insulation layer, make the oven base, inner and outer shells and finish with a lime wash. We will provide you with a full set of instructions you can take away and also a list of materials you’ll need. We will be making a large oven, suitable for gatherings and parties but you can scale it down to suit your space and needs. There may be a chance to buy clay on the Sunday to take away to make your own oven with too.
Cob ovens (sometimes know as pizza or bread ovens) are used for cooking anything you’d usually cook in a conventional oven. Pizzas, breads, pies, even drying fruit and herbs can easily be done in a cob oven. Wood is the heat source for this type of oven and we will also show you how to manage the fire and cook in the oven.
If the oven is dry enough when we’ve finished building it on the Sunday night, we will try it out with some homemade pizzas.
